Car Company Introduces Tailgating Truck

A car company released a new vehicle that may improve the sport of tailgating.

The Toyota Midnight Rider was dedicated to the country music duo Brooks & Dunn. The truck includes a slide-out BBQ grill, veritable kitchen, 42-inch television and XBox 360s.

"If my car or truck had something like this, I'd never make it inside for the event," Chris Illuminati, a technology writer for Phillyburbs.com said.

The new vehicle is currently in Los Angeles as part of the Specialty Equipment Market Association. The truck is not scheduled to be released for public purchase.

Gubernatorial Candidates Use Tailgates as Platforms

Both Virginia gubernatorial candidates used tailgates to disperse their clashing messages.

Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell (R) and State Sen. Creigh Deeds (D) picked Virginia Tech University as their battleground in order to persuade tailgaters, mostly college students, to cast votes for them.

"Young people registered in big numbers last year, and I want to be able to reach out to the young voters," McDonnell said.

Deeds also said it is important college students go to the polls when he addressed tailgaters.

"One of the most important things to do is build the smartest workforce in the world so we can attract the smartest jobs in Virginia," Deeds said.

McDonnell defeated Deeds for the governorship, which suggests Deeds may have needed to spend more time at tailgates.

Snow Buries Tailgating for Fans

Penn State has banned tailgating for Saturday's game against Minnesota and urged fans to carpool or walk to Beaver Stadium after a snowstorm forced the closure of most grass lots, eliminating 20,000 parking spaces.

Almost six inches of snow covered the lots by Friday afternoon. Forecasters predict up to six more inches overnight into Saturday.

The university says the lots are impassable for vehicular traffic. They are scrambling to find parking, including off-campus spaces with shuttle service.

This is homecoming weekend at Penn State, with the No. 14 Nittany Lions and Gophers kicking off at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Students Tailgating for U2?

OU officials will have the same tailgating policies as football games for the U2 concert this Sunday. This will cause many streets to shut down, including Lindsey Street which regularly shuts down hours before the kickoff of football games.

The stadium is expected to be filled with 50,000 to 60,000 people. Even though the gameday crowd averages more than that, streets will have to be shut down.

"There are about 70 semi-trailer trucks that will bring this concert into Norman," Kenny Mossman, OU's senior associate athletics director said. "So, in order to give them the access they need and the ability to offload, we needed to shut down the stadium and alter the traffic flow in front of the stadium a little bit."

After the concert, the stage will be torn down, and crews will install a new football field.

A tree statue of Former Buffalo Bills running back Thurman Thomas was stolen during a tailgating on Sunday.

While OU officials have tried to limit the use of alcohol on campus, one school is running in the opposite direction.

The University of Rhode Island has lifted a ban on alcohol during gamedays that has been enforced since the mid 1990s.

But the new policy only allows individuals to consume alcohol is designated areas, and students can not bring their own alcohol to the tailgates.

"Most campuses don't view tailgating as contributing to any of the problems associated with over consumption of alcohol," David M. Dooley, president of the university said. "In fact it can help model responsible behavior around the consumption of alcohol."

The university is expected to see an increase of tailgaters in the ongoing football season.

Don't Let This Happen To Your Tailgate!

Grills sizzling and tailgaters partying have been replaced by quietness at Penn State University as university officials turned a large tailgating area into a garden. This would inhibit many tailgaters from taking part in gameday events.

Penn State has talked about building the garden since 1902, and the project's development will progress through many phases.

"This is one of the most visible, most exciting new initiatives at Penn State," said Kate Reeder, university event and marketing coordinator.

Future improvement include a glass conservatory, children's garden, woodland gardens and an educational center.
